A Killer Website is a MUST When Building Your ‘Brand!’

 

Social networking is a subject we’ve been speaking about more than a little bit in the past few weeks, and will be speaking about more and more as time passes. Why? Because, let’s face it, the World Wide Web is now the ONLY way to get the ‘name recognition’ you need and be able to ‘brand’ your product, service, etc. all at the same time. These are facets that you must have in order to run a successful business nowadays.

 

This week I really want to talk about the two ‘staples’ of social networking that you really have to concentrate on in order to become a ‘cut above the rest.’ In this article, we are delving into the sometimes annoying world of website building.

 

We ALL know how unbelievably frustrating this particular facet of business can be, especially if you are not a designer or computer programmer and can not afford to employ one. You can literally sit for eons on the Internet and come across all different kinds of sites that offer you free templates to use for building your own website. Not to mention, you will also run across a plethora of companies that will offer to set up the website, make it as beautiful and/or commercial as necessary to increase your business and cash flow, and also offer to host the website – making sure to add, subtract, or edit anything you need to keep up with the changes and trends happening in your particular industry. This, however, can run into a great deal of money to make it all come together the way you want it to.

 

When I first began my own website search, I came across thousands of sites. I mean, everything from graphics that were in 3-D to websites that would speak to the buyer, play videos, and basically do everything but cook your dinner, were available. There were lists of companies that were not highly expensive; all the business owner had to pay was a monthly charge, and they can choose among a huge variety of color concepts, graphics, the ability to download pictures, set up events, set up a blog in order to tell all the clients out there what they’re missing by not purchasing your products – pretty much everything you could think of that would create the ‘world’ that you want to show to your customers and/or fans.

 

Let’s just say, after studying far into the nights, weekends, etc., I found out quickly that creative ingenuity and a heck of a lot of imagination were the two main ingredients to building the perfect website.

 

Being as that we have seen it all, I still maintain that the ‘visual’ is the most important part when it comes to website building. You HAVE to be able to pull your client in your proverbial door with eye-catching graphics that make them feel as if they ‘have’ to see more of what you’re offering. One of the absolute worst things that can be said by readers, customers and followers is that the ‘product and/or service seems great, but the website was absolutely boring.’ Boring and drab will turn away potential customers and fans quicker than anything else possibly could.

 

There is also the mistake made many times out there that a product can be so great that you believe it should simply ‘sell itself.’ Unfortunately there are so many great products out there that you have no choice but to find ways to make your website stand out! It’s pretty simple: If your website is being ‘talked about’ all over the Internet – then your product is too!

 

Now, one of the issues that many – in any and all industries – don’t realize is the fact that ‘sheepdom’ does occur when it comes to the newest fad, trend or product. Some businesses will say, “That’s great!” After all, if you can get the ‘buzz’ going and the sheep following to the website, you have your cash flow. But there is a downside to all this, guys and gals, and that is the fact that if your company does everything absolutely right, then it is a 100% certainty that other companies in your industry will grab on and begin to ‘outshine’ you.  Think about it. The best ‘brand new, never-before-seen’ pet grooming supply comes on the market. By the next month, the biggest ‘search’ on the computer is for pet grooming supplies, and already seventeen other companies have their own ‘rendition’ of the same product you do…and at a lower price. Or, (gasp!) theirs is highlighted on a better, more colorful website than yours.

 

In my realm, as you know, I have to think about writers. And when you speak about websites, I have to give the thumbs-up to authors like, Dale E. Basye.

www.wherethebadkidsgo.com. This is a writer who has done a seriously fantastic job of building a website that completely and utterly revolves around his unique young readers and teen series based on the Circles of Heck. I bring this particular site to your attention because it is one out there in the literary world that seriously ‘shines’ the spotlight on a series of books that are humorous, fun-loving, adventurous and unforgettable. (The Circles of Heck range from Rapacia: Where the Greedy Kids Go to Snivel: Where the Whiny Kids Go – and more) This is a writer, like J.K. Rowling with her Harry Potter site, that knew exactly what he was trying to say, and put together a website that ‘draws’ more and more of an audience into his ‘realm.’ In other words – he stayed away from the ‘sheep’ process, making sure that no one could imitate him…or, at least, not very well. The graphics, the colors, the sound effects – everything works, and is a great lesson for any author and business, giving them the ability to see what a difference imagination makes when it comes to selling a product to a specific audience.

 

A business or individual needs that website that is far different than all others, and needs to stay away from that dreaded ‘sheepdom’ that sometimes occurs in this world.

 

My advice in this matter is to really study; make sure that your website completely fits your product and what you want your customers to learn. Having a successful business means concentrating on the creation of a website that fits the category of audience you and your company are trying to reach. If not…then you just become one in a long line of same-old, same-old websites that didn’t create the ‘buzz’ they needed in order to survive.

 

Marketing and advertising, a Facebook page, Twittering – these are all staples to increase business and increase your name recognition on the web. But your websites must be unique in order to make sure that your product, service, book, etc. is the one and only one that everyone wants to buy!
